Cooper (Therapy Dog)

If you love dogs and you’ve ever wondered what it would be like to have one in the therapy room, I’m here to help make therapy feel a little safer, softer, and more approachable.

Hi, I’m Cooper — and I work alongside Dr. Mistie Seawell as part of our Animal Assisted Counseling and Animal Assisted Play Therapy. If you love dogs and you’ve ever wondered what it would be like to have one in the therapy room, I’m here to help make therapy feel a little safer, softer, and more approachable.

I spend time with children and teens who are feeling anxious, overwhelmed, or stuck — especially when worry, sadness, or negative thoughts about themselves are starting to take up too much space.

What it can feel like before therapy

A lot of kids (and parents) come in feeling:

  • Overwhelmed

  • Stuck

  • Anxious or on edge

  • Burned out

  • Unsure where to start

  • Like it’s hard to find joy again

What it’s like to work with me

I’m gentle and furry — and yes, you should be prepared for some licks and snuggles. Sometimes it’s easier to talk when your hands are busy petting a dog. Sometimes it’s easier to try something new when there’s a calm, friendly presence in the room. I’m here for all of that.

How I help

My job is to help the therapy space feel warmer and less intimidating — especially for kids who may be nervous about opening up. I help create comfort, connection, and a sense of calm so the work feels more doable.

One thing I want you to know: The way you tell your story — especially to yourself — is what makes all the difference.

A little about me

I love meeting new friends, going on outings with my human and my canine friends… and of course, sniffing.
